Explore the Wineries of the World by Bike Tour Part 1

Bike tours are a fantastic way to see cities or natural areas, get fresh air and exercise and relish being in the outdoors. You can ride along with the wind in your hair, not a care in the world. There are some beautiful parts of the world to explore by bike, and not nearly enough time to do it in. The benefits of a bike tour are numerous, and it’s even better when there’s wine involved! These are several of the most highly-rated wine country bike tours around the world, brought to you by the team at Grand Cru…

Clare Valley, Australia

The Riesling Trail voyages through this lush area of South Australia. It’s well marked, with plenty of information boards along the way to get you learning while you’re hopping between wineries. It’s not called the Riesling Trail for no reason – enjoy some award-winning drops at Grosset and Taylors Wines wineries.

Finger Lakes, New York, US

There are so many bike trails around this charming part of New York state, with perhaps the most beautiful being the 70km circuit around Keuka Lake. Pick up some cabernet franc and Riesling on your journey, and visit one of the area’s first wineries, Pleasant Valley Wine.

The Wachau Valley, Austria

This UNESCO-listed location in the North of the country is filled with gorgeous Benedictine abbeys, old castles and terraced vineyards. It’s on the 365km Danube Cycle Path, and the area is one of the most picturesque parts of the route.

Coquimbito, Argentina

Laying at the base of the Andes and accessible by bus from nearby Mendoza. There’s a brand new 12km bike trail that links around a dozen bodegas, or wineries. Visit a couple of the top-producing wineries of Argentina, including Trapiche and La Rural.

Willamette Valley, Oregon, US

Known for its Pinot Noir, which was highly praised highly at the 1979 Wine Olympics, the area is also renowned for its Riesling and Pinot Gris as well. Not only does it produce some fantastic wines from excellent wineries, it’s also incredibly picturesque. The 205km long Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway meanders through the valley, however does involve a few hilly sections.
