Why Use a Wine Fridge?

Why Use a Wine Fridge?

Wondering why you should use a wine fridge when you have a regular fridge at home? That’s a question Matthew Gerard, Grand Cru Wine Fridges’ founder, receives often.

How you store it is just as important as what you buy. While it might be tempting to keep bottles in a kitchen fridge or cupboard, these environments simply aren’t designed to preserve wine properly. Over time, that can mean compromised flavour, aroma, and overall quality.

Wine fridges are built to store your wine in the perfect conditions. That is, between 12 and 18 degrees Celsius, and around 70% humidity. Regular fridges are too cold, too dry, and vibrate more, which affects ageing wine.

What temperature should you serve your wine?

The ideal temperature at which your wine should be stored varies based on the type of wine, the variety, and individual characteristics. Red wine should be stored between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius, while white wine should be stored between 7 and 10 degrees Celsius.

Why use a wine fridge?

  • Consistent, optimal temperature

  • Protection from light and vibration

  • Humidity control

  • Designed for wine, not food

Beyond function, a wine fridge adds a premium feel to your home. Whether built-in or freestanding, it becomes a feature, showcasing your collection while keeping it in perfect condition.

At the end of the day, a wine fridge isn’t just about storage; it’s about protecting your investment and elevating your experience.
